Before Steve Ballmer gave his exclusive hands on opinion of the new Microsoft phone, Joe Belfiore, VP in charge of the program management and design, gave the audience the first look at Windows Phone 7 series.
Joe Belfiore, who has been at Microsoft for 20 years, presented the phone focusing on user experience and design. Belfiore explained how most smart phones today are more like a PC than actual phones. Windows Phone 7 Series is a different kind of phone.
As Belfiore stated, when Microsoft was in process of building the new phone, they wanted to know “How can we build a phone that focuses on the end user and the things that mattered the most to them - The individual and those custom things about you that make the phone reflect your unique personality and needs?”
“We like to think what we are doing is building and delivering a different kind of phone that’s modern and takes advantage of people’s complex lives and personalities that deliver something unique and individual,” Joe Belfiore exclaimed. Windows Phone 7 series focuses on the individuals and their tasks and helps organize information and applications.
The phone is designed for life in motion with smart design and integrated experiences. The smart design hardware and software will work the way the user wants. Its user friendly and easy to use with 3 buttons on the front (Start, Back, and Search). The integrated experiences creates destination for common tasks. The experiences are broken down into 5 hubs which include People, Pictures, Office/Productivity, Music/Video, and Games.
Connecting with your people with the Windows Phone 7 Series is unique and very easy to do. Your contact list is easy to navigate and makes searching for certain people easy. With this phone you can bring together people from your social networks, such as facebook and windows live or your phone’s contact list. All status updates from your friends social networks and comments are automatically updated.
With the pictures hub on the Windows Phone there are easy ways to navigate and link your pictures immediately to your social networks. Once you are enabled to facebook or another social network through this wireless phone, you can click on the picture and upload it directly to your page. The phone consists of a large gallery of your pictures and is easy to sync pictures from your PC.
The office and productivity hub is great for business and outside work. If you have used Microsoft Office then you will already be aware of how easy the software will be to use.
One of the most exciting hubs on all phones is music and video. Every Windows 7 phone will be a Zune. There will be 3rd party applications and services to integrate, so there’s a one stop shopping for everything the user wants to do with music and video. The phone has great music features that only get better once you see it for yourself.
Finally, the games hub may be the most interesting feature of them all. The games will allow you to connect Xbox Live service and games with a built in part of a value proposition. Games will also allow people to play against users by PC, Xbox, or a Windows Phone 7 Series since they will be synced.
Joe Belfiore’s closing statement at the windows conference included, “We are trying to take this rich capability of stuff out on the web and applications and bring them together in a design that’s smart that prioritizes around the things that are most important for each individual user. We wanted to create integrated experiences as well around the most common tasks. Pictures, Music, Productivity, People. And we think this all together is really a different kind of phone that will work great with busy people whose lives are constantly in motion and who want to make the most out of every little moment they have available. We want it to be easy to use and delightful and something new.”
